Two Hendersonville projects are among those up for the 2015 Engineering Excellence Awards competition, considered to be the “Academy Awards of the engineering industry,” according to a news release.
The projects are:
Hendersonville Utility District Water Treatment Plant additions
The project, completed by Waste Management Services, LLC, for the Hendersonville Utility District, was in response to the need for additional treatment capacity and concerns that traditional treatment techniques might not be adequate for continued compliance with future regulations.
The project involved the construction of a new treatment plant capable of 10 million gallons per day, incorporating the original raw water pumping station and clearwells.
This facility provides the Hendersonville Utility District with the technology needed to address challenging regulatory standards and provide outstanding water quality to customers.
State Route 386 and Indian Lake Boulevard Interchange
Alfred Benesch & Company performed planning, design and construction engineering services for the Tennessee Department of Transportation project.
Temporary improvements, including a new traffic signal and exit ramp widening, improved the interchange’s short-term operational performance right away.
Through the innovative bridge construction techniques, both interchange structures were built simultaneously, resulting in lower construction costs and a fast-paced construction schedule.
The project came in $660,000 below budget and was completed in 17 months. The new interchange design reduced congestion, utilized existing right-of-way, minimized environmental impacts and increased public safety.
